Building Consultant

Marley Risk Consultants Ltd are a chartered Loss Adjusters servicing the needs of the Property Latent Defects Insurance market across the UK. Established in 2013, we have offices in Shrewsbury, Evesham, Nottingham and London and are going through a period of growth to meet the needs of our expanding client base.

We are seeking experienced Building Consultants to join our team. This postholder will provide Claim Handlers, Loss Adjusters and Clients of the business with the technical expertise in relation to building pathology, building defects and their remediation and associated costs.

Job Type:

  • Homebased throughout the UK- Hybrid working requirements to be in the office at least one day a month
  • Full-time (Mon-Fri)

Salary:

  • Negotiable depending on experience.

Key Activities:

  • Carry out inspections of building defects and report upon damage, causation and remediation
  • Carry out inspections of damage in relation to property claims for fire, flood, escape of water and impact and provide technical advice to Loss Adjusters including scheduling of necessary repairs and costs for reserving purposes.
  • Provide technical advice to support Claims Handlers and Loss Adjusters with technical queries including pathology, methodology or damage and costs for reserving and settlement purposes.
  • Carry out inspections of newly build properties to identify snagging issues and provide reports detailing observations.
  • Carry out "Couch Calls" and site visits to ensure that works have been carried out to a suitable standard and provide feedback to preferred suppliers.
  • Provide a technical inspection service to developers where claims have been logged, agree necessary works in relations to remediation and carry out inspections of repairs.
  • Carry out inspections of works in relation to new build properties at various stages of construction to ensure that a building warranty can be provided.

Skills and Experience required:

  • Experience of IT systems including MS Word, Excel, Outlook and Teams and Claims Management Portal Systems (specific training on company systems will be given as required).
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong understanding of building regulations, construction law and insurance law and their practical applications in the industry.
  • Able to quickly build positive and effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Well organised with excellent time management skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and high levels of accuracy.
  • Confident working independently under instruction.
  • Bachelor degree (preferred). Qualifications in Surveying, Approved Inspector and/or Building Control would be advantageous.
  • Valid UK driving licence and willingness to travel as required. This may involve overnight stays, depending on region serviced and site location
