Accountant (6 Month FTC)Torbay, Devon£40,000 - £60,000

Our client, a prestigious organisation in Torbay, is seeking a highly skilled and professional Accountant to join their team on an initial six-month fixed-term contract.

In this key role, you will oversee critical financial operations, providing strong leadership and management across head office banking, and accounts receivable functions, VAT accounting, fixed asset accounting, sales invoicing and review of payments.

You will lead a team of four professionals, working closely with the wider finance department to ensure financial accuracy, operational efficiency, and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Payment Runs: Oversee payment runs, ensuring compliance with group policies and deadlines.
  • Credit Control: Manage credit control actions, maintain effective relationships with other teams
  • Financial Reporting: Support the management accounting team to ensure accurate group reporting and help with month-end processes, including accruals and reconciliations.
  • Expense Claims: Review and approve expense claims, ensuring proper controls are maintained.
  • Internal Controls: Drive improvements in internal control procedures across the team.
  • Audit Support: Assist with year-end and interim audit processes to ensure smooth and efficient audits.
  • Banking & Cashflow: Oversee banking operations, cashflow recording, and account reconciliations to ensure effective financial management.

The Ideal Candidate:

  • Qualifications: A professional accounting qualification (AAT, ACCA, CIMA, or ACA) is preferred, with experience in accounts payable, VAT, and credit control.
  • Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, with strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Team Player: A self-motivated and reliable team player with the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Attention to Detail: Excellent organisational skills, with a strong focus on accuracy and quality.
  • Integrity: A trustworthy professional capable of maintaining confidential records and adhering to ethical standards.
  • Leadership: Proven management experience with the ability to lead teams, prioritise tasks, and thrive under pressure.
