Job Description:

The Role:

Our client is seeking an experienced Test Manager/Senior Test Engineer to join its Defence Technology Tribe to review and lead testing activities. The Defence Technology Tribe is responsible for developing, maintaining, and supporting advanced meteorological-based services and data for use by our Defence customers around the world. You will be part of a talented development team, finding innovative ways to enable their customers to maximise the value of their world-leading meteorological data.

You will collaborate with a range of stakeholders, including engineers, product managers, project managers, and external third-party suppliers, to ensure the delivery of high-quality products that meet the expectations of their customers and users.

This role is to provide cover for maternity leave, with a handover period to mentor and upskill the tester upon their return to work. You will also need to upskill and educate development teams on testing best practices, including improving the value of the existing Test Automation.

This is a unique opportunity to work with cutting-edge development teams and the Met Office's world-leading science and technology capability to enable the MOD and its key allies to gain optimal advantage and achieve operational success.

General Responsibilities:

  • Define and own the Defence Technology test strategy, scope, and schedule.
  • Work with teams to review existing testing processes and provide recommendations for improvement.
  • Advise and educate others on testing techniques, processes, and tools.
  • Implement Automated Test frameworks and testing processes as required.
  • Work with business areas to manage resources and risks.
  • Communicate and collaborate with the wider business.

Essential Criteria:

  • Minimum 4 years of experience in software testing.
  • Must hold active SC.
  • Experience in test management and leading testing functions/services for agile teams.
  • Experience in implementing Automated Test suites and frameworks.
  • Experience in non-functional testing, e.g., Performance Testing.
  • Strong knowledge of AWS, GIT, Jenkins, Cypress.
  • Experience with Behaviour Driven Development (BDD) and Test Driven Development (TDD).
  • Experience in educating and upskilling development teams and testers on testing best practices - able to implement new testing processes and practices.
  • Excellent communication skills and experience working with diverse stakeholder groups such as internal suppliers and third-party suppliers.
  • Attention to detail, quality, and problem-solving skills.

Desirable:

  • Certification in software testing.
  • Previous experience working within the Defence sector or highly regulated industry.
