Role title: Income Protection Claims Assessor - Home Based
Location: UK National role
Salary: Circa £45k
PURPOSE OF ROLE
We are working with a leading insurer to recruit an experienced Income Protection Claims Assessor to join their team.
Your primary responsibility will be to assess and manage claims across all IP products. You will balance sound decision-making with customer care, ensuring that claims are processed in line with company policies and regulations. Your work will directly contribute to maintaining the insurer’s reputation while minimising risk and promoting business growth.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assess and authorise IP claims accurately and promptly, following policy terms and procedures.
- Review ongoing claims and make recommendations for management plans.
- Communicate effectively with medical professionals, intermediaries, and customers.
- Provide guidance to customers, both for successful claims and those that must be declined.
- Arrange independent assessments, treatments, and home visits as needed.
- Maintain regular contact with policyholders to support their return to work.
- Prepare and send confidential correspondence to relevant parties, escalating urgent issues to management.
- Stay updated on industry trends and support the development of claims processes and systems.
- Ensure compliance with relevant financial regulations and report any risks to management.
FINANCIAL CRIME RESPONSIBILITIES
- Report suspected fraud (e.g., contrived claims, application fraud) to your Manager/Compliance.
- Submit Suspicious Transaction Reports (STR) for financial transactions linked to fraud.
- Report confirmed fraud cases to the Insurance Fraud Register (IFR) when supported by evidence.
- Report suspicions of bribery or corruption under the Bribery Act 2010, including gifts and hospitality issues.
- Accurately record evidence of financial crime.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Adhere to Treating Customers Fairly (TCF) principles and the company’s risk management policies.
- Maintain CPD to stay compliant with FCA regulations.

EXPERIENCE
- Understanding of claims processes, policy cover, and underwriting criteria.
- Knowledge of the insurance industry and financial advisor market.

- Ability to manage workload efficiently and work well in a team.
- Analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
