Lead Design Engineer, Exeter, £50,000

As a Lead Design Engineer for this well-established hydraulics manufacturer, you’ll play a key role in leading the design and quality teams, ensuring high standards across hydraulic valves, pumps, and actuators. This hands-on role involves 3D modelling, project management, and process improvements within a state-of-the-art production facility.

Lead Design Engineer Responsibilities

  • Lead and mentor the design and quality teams to drive technical excellence.
  • Use SolidWorks and CAD software to design and refine hydraulic valves, pumps, and actuators.
  • Manage the development and implementation of new hydraulic designs.
  • Oversee quality standards and ensure continuous improvements in production.
  • Collaborate with suppliers, production, and engineering teams to enhance product development.
  • Implement efficiency improvements to streamline manufacturing and assembly processes.

Skills & Experience Required

  • Strong mechanical design engineering background, with hydraulics experience essential.
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks and CAD software.
  • Knowledge of machining processes, fits & finishes, and castings (desirable).
  • Leadership experience with the ability to mentor and manage teams.
  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and project management skills.
