Job Description:

A vacancy for one to two Senior Project Managers has become available within a large scale and highly complex Data Delivery programme at the Met Office.

The Met Office is recognised as an innovative, global weather and climate data centre. Our environmental (weather and climate) data is key output which we want to gain maximum benefit from, by making it easier to access and easier to use.

Data Delivery Programme

The Data Delivery Programme will enable government, industry and UK citizens to access accurate, consistent and usable environmental data - what they want, where they want it and how they want it - to make better decisions.

The programme will achieve this through streamlining the process by which we make data available, ensuring that we can accelerate the pace at which we can draw through improvements in our underlying science into our products and to our customers.

The programme is currently defining the projects needed to deliver the programme outcomes, which will include:

Project to strengthen the governance of our environmental data.

Project(s) building new, cloud-native solutions that will accelerate and scale our data delivery capability.

Working with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), the Project Manager will lead the project and the project team on a day-to-day basis using GDS Service Manual (Agile) principles and Met Office process. Aligning and reporting to the Programme, the Project Manager is responsible for driving and overseeing the delivery of the project to ensure that the objectives and priorities are clearly defined, understood and achieved within the agreed time, cost, and quality constraints. The Project Manager has a key role in project governance and working with stakeholders, to ensure the agreed project outputs are delivered to enable benefits to be realised.

Data Maturity Project (strengthen the governance of our environmental data):

The successful Project Manager will deliver a project to ensure the Met Office Data Strategy Framework is implemented holistically for governance of environmental data, e.g. application of consistent meta data and a data catalogue to make it easy to understand appropriate usage.

This project will work with Met Office Data Management SMEs and Business Analysts to identify changing processes and ways of working to align with the standards. The project will need to support people through the right working practises and ensure staff are trained and embrace the new approaches.

We’re looking for a Project Manager with the experience to deliver projects on time and to budget without compromising on quality. Significant experience of change management and / or data strategy implementation is a must, along with excellent communication and leadership skills.

Please note you will be expected to work in the office (Exeter HQ) 1 day a week, as defined by the existing work patterns of the team.
