Senior Press Officer

Eden Brown Synergy is currently working in partnership with a public sector organization in Devon, seeking a Senior Press Officer to join their Communications and Engagement team.

This is an exciting new position within the Media and Campaigns Team, working closely with the Press Office and Content Team to communicate the daily weather forecast and its broader context. The role is offered on an interim basis for 6 months initially, with a view to get extended up to a year.

As a Weather Journalist, you'll play a pivotal role in delivering authoritative, engaging, and timely written weather content, supporting public and media engagement with weather narratives.

Key Responsibilities:
* Content Creation: Write daily weather content that's accurate, engaging, and aligned with the wider news context.
* Collaboration: Work with content producers, presenters, and press officers to develop scripts, blogs, social media posts, and more, ensuring consistency with the organizational brand.
* Media Engagement: Identify and promote opportunities for weather stories within the news agenda.
* Network Building: Establish and nurture contacts to source impactful stories and broaden their media uptake.
* Innovation: Help define and develop the organization's future written weather offerings to maximize engagement and impact.

Essential Skills:
* Solid understanding of the news media, publishing, and social landscapes.
* Exceptional written communication skills with the ability to deliver at pace and with impact.
* Strong interpersonal and team-working abilities for collaboration across all levels.
* Experience creating engaging digital or news content, increasing reach and engagement.
* Proven ability to communicate complex subjects, such as meteorology, to a general audience.

Desirable Skills:
* Background in meteorology, climate science, or weather communications.
* Training or experience in journalism.
