Abatec have partnered with a respected and established civil engineering company, currently seeking a skilled Quantity Surveyor to join their commercial team on the AMP 8 South West Water framework.

This newly created role presents an exciting opportunity to work with a company that has a clear, ambitious vision for success. With a strong track record and ongoing projects secured through their successful framework, the company offers long-term stability and growth prospects in the region.

We are looking for candidates with experience in the civil engineering sector, a solid understanding of the NEC form of contract, and ideally a background in engineering with Tier 1 or Tier 2 contractors.

As a Quantity Surveyor you will:

  • Cost Estimating and Budgeting: assist in preparing cost estimates for projects, ensuring that budgets are adhered to.
  • Tendering and Procurement: help with the preparation and evaluation of tender documents, liaising with contractors, suppliers, and other stakeholders to obtain competitive prices for services and materials.
  • Contract Administration: assist in administering the terms and conditions of contracts, including reviewing and understanding contract documents.
  • Cost Control and Monitoring: Tracking project costs against the initial estimates and budgets, identifying any discrepancies, and making recommendations for corrective actions if necessary.
  • Risk Management: Identifying potential risks related to costs and schedules and helping to develop strategies to manage these risks throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Financial Reporting: Producing and maintaining reports on the financial status of the project, which includes cost reports, cash flow forecasts, and valuation reports for clients and stakeholders.
  • Client Liaison and Communication: Working with clients, contractors, and consultants to discuss budgets, project progress, and any financial issues that arise during the construction process.

Our client requires a Quantity Surveyor with:

  • Proficient with Contracts and Costing: A good knowledge of NEC (New Engineering Contract), and the ability to manage cost estimation, budgeting, and procurement effectively.
  • Strong Negotiation Skills: Negotiate with suppliers, subcontractors, and clients to achieve the best value for the project, balancing cost with quality.
  • Industry Experience and Practical Expertise: Experience working on similar civil engineering projects, whether for Tier 1, Tier 2 contractors, or specialized sectors.
  • Is Technologically Savvy: Familiarity with modern software tools for cost estimation, project management, and BIM (Building Information Modeling)
  • Strong Technical Knowledge: Understanding of civil engineering principles, materials, construction methods, and the ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
  • Detail-Oriented: Accuracy in measuring quantities, calculating costs, and managing project finances is vital to ensuring that projects stay within budget and on schedule.
  • Excellent Communication Skills: The ability to clearly communicate with clients, contractors, suppliers, and team members, and to resolve disputes or issues diplomatically.
  • Degree, or similar, in Quantity Surveying.
  • A valid UK driving license.
