Red Snapper Recruitment are recruiting for a Housing Management Officer based in Devon and Cornwall (office base Exeter).

The purpose of this role is to take a lead in the assessment of potential residents and promotion of the accommodation. Working in conjunction with Devon & Cornwall Supported Housing Service staff to ensure appropriate action is taken to address rent arrears and charges including the support of SMART payment plans which work towards savings and good financial management.

This is a full-time 37.5 hours, Monday to Friday, permanent role offering a salary of £24,500 per annuum. (Participation in an on-call, out-of-hours rota)

You must have a valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle.

Main duties and responsibilities

  • Supporting clients to achieve long term independence and be allocated a key client caseload to support the team.
  • Working with other teams and external agencies as needed to ensure efficient information sharing and joint working, including attendance at internal and external meetings.
  • Provide housing management service for residents in Supported Housing
  • Ensure rent and service charge accounts are up to date and monitored regularly
  • Provide tenancy sustainment support to clients identified as at risk of homelessness
  • To keep an accurate up to date record of private rented accommodation vacancies across the organisations Devon & Cornwall Supported Housing Service ensuring relevant managers are aware of the current position on a weekly basis, and in response to changes.
  • Ensure residents are kept fully informed of the balances on their rent and service charge accounts.
  • To liaise with landlords, brokering positive tenant landlord relationships
  • Conduct weekly health and safety monitoring tasks to include but not restricted too: Fire alarm checks, Smoke alarm testing, Legionella testing
  • Provide Tenancy sustainment support to clients identified as at risk of homelessness in line with our policies and procedures - providing support and intervention as identified by the case worker.
  • Attend and participate in team and senior meetings, using them as an opportunity to share updated knowledge gained on welfare benefits or other related subjects.
  • Ensure ongoing assessment and management of risks associated with clients with an attitude of positive risk taking.
  • Actively report repairs and maintenance issues, and support clients with daily living activities, such as cleaning, including practical assistance where skills are not yet developed, to ensure that clients enjoy a high quality of accommodation.
  • Conduct client assessments and assess their suitability for our accommodation.
  • Working with the Service Manager arrange tenancy and licence agreement sign ups to service, and complete the induction process with new residents.

Person Specification

  • Have full driving license and access to own car.
  • Working as part of a team in a social or health care setting
  • Experience working with vulnerable adults and/or people with complex needs and challenging behaviours
  • Good knowledge and ability to use Microsoft Word, email and basic spread sheets
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Understanding of Benefits and Housing Benefits system
  • Skills for supporting clients to develop money management capability
  • Understanding of complex needs and how to put the client at the centre of your work
