Location: Devon (On-site 1-2 days per month, remote candidates may also be considered)

Rate: £501 per day (Inside IR35)

Clearance: Active SC clearance highly desirable

This is a fantastic opportunity to work on cutting-edge projects within a high-performance computing environment, developing solutions to support critical weather and climate forecasting models.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, implement, test, and document software for weather and climate models, ensuring readiness for next-generation supercomputing architectures.
  • Collaborate with a team of scientists and engineers to optimise performance and scalability of simulation systems.
  • Focus on I/O, optimisation, and software enhancements to ensure robust operational use.
  • Provide support to the team with technical expertise, ensuring smooth project delivery.

Essential Skills:

  • Proficiency in one or more compiled programming languages (e.g., Fortran, C, C++).
  • Strong experience with Python, Linux, and version control systems (e.g., Git, SVN).
  • Ability to work within a quality-focused software development lifecycle.
  • Excellent communication skills, including clear documentation and collaboration within a team.

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience developing large-scale scientific applications.
  • Knowledge of object-oriented Fortran 2003.
