Long-Term Teachers are incredibly proud to support a fantastic alternative provision who strongly believes in giving young people a second chance through a trauma-informed, child-centred approach. We are seeking compassionate, patient and adaptable learning mentors to support students who need time away from mainstream education. You will play a crucial role in not only helping students develop socially and emotionally, but academically as well.

Key responsibilities:

  • Support students on a 1:1 basis, providing personalised support around their needs, mainly social, emotional and behavioural related difficulties

  • You will support students to engage in their learning across core subjects

  • Take students off-site to engage in a range of outreach work (e.g outdoor activities, visiting attraction, exploring the local area)

  • Support students in engaging in vocational activities (e.g construction, hair dressing)

  • Help students develop their confidence and self-esteem

  • Facilitate the transition back into mainstream education

About you:

Patience and resilience is essential for this role. You must be confident in managing challenging behaviour and able to adopt an empathetic approach to best support the students. Building relationships with students takes great discipline and perseverance, but is incredibly rewarding when you see them thrive. Previous experience working with children and dealing with challenging behaviour would be beneficial. However, if you believe you have the right characteristics and personality to excel in this role, we would love to hear from you!

You must have a valid UK drivers licence and access to your own car. You may be required to transport students for off-site activities.

You will be working 08:30 - 15:30, Monday to Friday, term time only. If you prove to be a real asset to the team, there may be opportunities to make your position permanent.
