Long-Term Teachers have an incredibly unique and rewarding opportunity to work at an innovative, forward thinking specialist provision in Exmouth. The school is seeking a post-16 teacher with experience of working with complex needs to provide outstanding support to a class of 5 students, aged 16 - 19, who are deaf and have accompanying needs. This role is for an immediate start and has the potential to be made permanent.

About the role:

You will be responsible for overseeing the experiential learning of the class and working collaboratively with support staff. You will be supported by a fantastic and highly experienced Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) who will provide ongoing support. You will gradually take increasing responsibility for the class, once you have got to know the learners in more detail and their day-to-day routines. Each student also has a 1:1 teaching assistant who will support you in overcoming any communication barriers.

The curriculum is developed to help prepare students for adulthood and life beyond education. Therefore, your days will include activities such as going to local garden centres, cooking, independent travel training and swimming.

The ideal candidate will:

  • Have Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) at Secondary Level or be an experienced post-16 teacher who has worked closely with students with complex needs

  • BSL qualification is desirable but not essential (our school would support this training)

  • Must be confident in leading and managing a small team of support staff

  • Great interpersonal skills and excellent at making decisions

  • Proactive, resilient and a real passion for making a difference

  • A willingness to learn and develop

This role is ongoing and you must be available to start immediately. You will be working Monday - Friday, 9am - 3:30pm, term time only.
