Job Title: Freelance Highways Design Engineer

Job Description:
We are seeking a skilled Highways Design Engineer to support the design and delivery of highway schemes on a 6-month contract basis. The role is inside IR35 and offers an excellent hourly rate of 35-40 per hour. Based in Suffolk, this position provides the opportunity to work on key infrastructure projects within a collaborative environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and produce highway design solutions from feasibility through to detailed design.
- Work on projects including road improvements, junction upgrades, and resurfacing schemes.
- Ensure designs comply with DMRB, MCHW, local authority standards, and other relevant regulations.
- Utilise design software such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and MicroDrainage to create accurate drawings.
- Prepare technical reports, specifications, and cost estimates.
- Collaborate with local authorities, contractors, and multidisciplinary teams to deliver projects effectively.
- Provide technical support during project implementation and site works if required.
Requirements:
? Proven experience in highways design, ideally within a local authority or consultancy environment.
? Proficiency in AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and MicroDrainage.
? Strong understanding of highway standards and regulations, including DMRB and MCHW.
? Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
? Ability to work independently and meet project deadlines.
? Experience working within an IR35-compliant contract environment is desirable.
