The role as Bathroom Fitter, no two days will be the same. You’ll work across social housing, schools, offices, and commercial properties, ensuring buildings are safe, compliant, and well-maintained.

Role Overview:
Perform routine and responsive repairs, including void repairs, for Portsmouth City Council’s properties such as social housing, schools, offices, and heritage sites. Tasks focus on painting and decorating, including preparation, painting, wallpaper hanging, artex repairs, and non-licensed asbestos removal (training provided).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver high-quality workmanship, ensuring safety and compliance.
  • Carry necessary tools and maintain a clean van.
  • Protect tenant property, keep work areas tidy, and provide excellent customer service.
  • Diagnose repairs, assess risks, and provide estimated completion times.
  • Complete repairs efficiently in one visit where possible, coordinating with the Operations Centre.
  • Follow the PLAN process: Proportionate, Lawful, Auditable, and Necessary decisions.

Skills & Knowledge:

  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and customer service skills.
  • Ability to self-manage, prioritize tasks, and work as part of a team.
  • Knowledge of building materials, methods, and industry regulations.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • NVQ Level 2 in Painting and Decorating (or equivalent).
  • 2-5 years’ experience in social housing or building maintenance.
