Overview:We are seeking SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) Teaching Assistants to join schools in Fareham with an ongoing need for support staff. This role is ideal for compassionate, patient, and dedicated individuals who are passionate about making a positive difference in the lives of students with SEMH needs. Full-time and part-time positions are available, with an immediate start.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide tailored support to students with SEMH needs, helping them access the curriculum and achieve their full potential
- Work on a 1:1 basis or with small groups of students to address their academic, social, and emotional needs
- Assist with classroom activities and help maintain a positive and supportive learning environment
- Implement individualized behavior support plans and assist in managing challenging behaviors
- Collaborate with teachers, SENCOs, and external professionals to develop strategies that promote positive student outcomes
- Encourage students' personal development, confidence, and independence
- Support students during unstructured times such as breaks and lunchtimes
Requirements:
- Previous experience working with children or young people with SEMH needs or other special educational needs (SEN)
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with students and staff
- Patience, resilience, and empathy in supporting students facing emotional or behavioral challenges
- Ability to remain calm and manage challenging situations in a positive and effective manner
- A flexible and proactive approach to work
- Immediate availability
