Electrical Design Engineer

Location: Kettering or Fareham

Salary: £45k - £65k

A leading organisation is seeking an experienced Electrical Design Engineer to contribute to multi-discipline project delivery, working alongside mechanical discipline engineers. This role involves designing and specifying all aspects of electrical building services in accordance with current regulations, standards, and guidelines.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review and assess work from external design consultants and contractors, ensuring compliance with building regulations, employer requirements, and industry best practices.
  • Collaborate with developers to provide assistance during project feasibility stages.
  • Maintain professional competency through continuous development and training.
  • Act as a mentor to a designated team member, managing their workload, training needs, and professional growth.
  • Stay updated on design standards, regulations, and legislation changes, disseminating relevant information within the team.
  • Conduct and document project design reviews.

Principal Duties:

  • Perform calculations, generate drawings, specifications, and reports.
  • Conduct site surveys, manage construction phase duties, and liaise with clients and design/construction teams.
  • Handle project management tasks, including budgeting and resource allocation.
  • Ensure understanding of project briefs, adherence to deadlines, and cost efficiency.
  • Maintain coordination with team members and support forward planning for workload distribution.
  • Ensure design intent and commissioning requirements are met during construction.
  • Utilise up-to-date IT tools and methodologies for technical and quality management.
  • Regularly review computations and adhere to quality assurance procedures.
  • Identify and address issues encountered during project execution.
  • Support the development of best practices to improve team efficiency, particularly through IT integration.
  • Complete necessary administrative tasks, including time and expense tracking.

Key Skills and Experience:

  • Proven expertise in electrical services design, particularly within:
  • Commercial and mixed-use developments
  • Public sector, including healthcare and education
  • Residential and industrial sectors
  • Strong project delivery track record across various sectors and development scales.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and negotiate effectively.
  • In-depth knowledge of electrical services design, equipment, and installation requirements.
  • Experience in managing project teams from RIBA Stage 0 through RIBA Stage 6.
  • Skilled in overseeing external design teams and vendors.
  • Ability to review and approve technical calculations from junior engineers.
  • Proficiency in writing technical submissions, reports, and presentations.
  • Experience in low-carbon engineering and decarbonisation initiatives.

Qualifications:

Minimum HNC qualification in a relevant discipline.
