TAX MANAGER

Oportunity to join a well-established, growing and innovative business and advisory firm based in Camberley who provide advice and accounting solutions to help entrepreneurial and high growth businesses. Working with Tax team, you will be responsible for all aspects of taxation. This role is essential to meeting clients’ evolving requirements, delivering long term sustainable value to businesses and individuals by providing a range of solutions and advice such as self-assessment corporate and personal tax returns, Capital Gains Tax returns, Inheritance Tax returns and advice, Trust Tax returns and tax planning advice. The role is office based and working with a friendly team, and will be great for a driven, ambitious and versatile individual who is looking for their next challenge.

Qualifications and Experience

  • CTA qualified with experience of both personal and corporate tax and a good knowledge of VAT, Research and Development, Trusts, Inheritance Tax and some overseas tax.
  • STEP qualified preferred.
  • Up to date knowledge of tax legislation.
  • Highly IT literate. Must have worked with a variety of accounting software packages, be able to adapt quickly to new software, proficient in short cuts and navigating between screens and platforms whilst maintaining an exceptionally high degree of accuracy.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for advising on the following taxes: Personal Tax, Trust Tax, Inheritance Tax, Capital Gains Tax, VAT, Research and Development, P11D, Form 42, tax planning. Corporation Tax an advantage.
  • Assisting and training colleagues in Trust tax.
  • Maintain detailed working knowledge of the impact on tax in respect of changes to accounting standards and guidelines.
  • Manage a portfolio of personal tax clients.
  • Prepare the more complex Personal Tax Returns, along with reviewing working paper files prepared by other members of the team.
  • Advising on overseas tax implications with regard to Personal Tax Returns.
  • Reporting to the partners.
  • Follow existing systems, update them, and develop new policies for the Firm as appropriate.
  • Liaising with clients in relation to planning opportunities and providing written reports.
  • Develop the tax department and business services in order to win more clients/work.
  • Ad hoc advisory services.

  • One trainee.

Analytical and Judgemental Skills:

  • To formulate reasoned views and recommendations, tempering technical knowledge with commercialism to address complex issues, seeking consultation where required. Good practical judgement.
  • To handle client enquiries on a day to day basis and know when to inform the Managing Director to ensure he is kept fully up to date.

Communication Skills:

  • To speak with confidence in all client handling situations.
  • To write clear, concise emails and presentations and correspond efficiently.
  • To identify key issues and potential risk areas from discussions and reviews.

Leadership and Training Skills:

  • To motivate and organise colleagues and clients. A good manager who develops colleagues.
  • To identify and resolve key issues from file reviews and discussions.
  • To guide colleagues in all tax areas.

Business Relationships with Clients:

  • To establish good working relationships with all clients, extending the scope of our services beyond straight forward taxation areas.
  • To sell more services to existing clients, win new clients, and expand the tax offering of the Firm.

  • Sound analytical, numerical and problem-solving skills and be able to work to tight deadlines.
  • Resourceful.
  • Demonstrate scepticism. Able to think around situations and identify potential issues rather than accepting the status quo.
