Technical service manager

£65k - £70k Basic - £6.5k Car allowance, Private Healthcare, 6% pension matched

The Technical Services Manager will oversee the operation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of critical infrastructure within data centres. This role ensures the delivery of reliable and efficient technical services, compliance with industry standards, and optimal performance of facility systems. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background, experience in managing data centre operations, and a focus on delivering exceptional service to clients.

Key Responsibilities

1. Operations Management
- Oversee the operation and maintenance of critical data centre systems, including electrical, mechanical, and HVAC systems.
- Ensure the highest levels of uptime and reliability, meeting SLA and KPI requirements.
- Develop and implement operational procedures and preventive maintenance schedules.

2. Technical Leadership
- Provide technical expertise and guidance to engineering and support teams.
- Lead incident management and root cause analysis to resolve technical issues.
- Stay updated on emerging technologies and best practices in data centre operations.

3.Compliance & Risk Management
- Ensure adherence to health and safety regulations, industry standards, and company policies.
- Manage risk through robust processes for change management, incident reporting, and business continuity planning.
- Support audits and certifications, including ISO 27001, ISO 9001, and other relevant standards.

4. Client & Stakeholder Engagement
- Serve as a key point of contact for clients, providing regular updates on performance and addressing technical queries.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to support capacity planning, upgrades, and new projects.

5. Team Management
- Lead, develop, and mentor a team of engineers and technicians.
- Conduct performance evaluations, set objectives, and ensure ongoing professional development.

6. Budget & Resource Management
- Manage operational budgets, optimize resource allocation, and control costs.
- Support procurement activities for equipment, tools, and services.

Key Skills and Qualifications

- Degree in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
- Proven experience in managing technical operations within a data centre environment.
- Strong understanding of critical systems, including UPS, generators, cooling systems, and fire suppression systems.
- Knowledge of compliance frameworks such as ISO 27001, PCI DSS, and ITIL.
- Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills, particularly under pressure.
- Strong leadership and communication skills with the ability to manage teams and liaise with clients effectively.
- Proficient in using data centre management tools and systems (e.g., DCIM).
- Certifications such as CDCDP, CNET, or similar are advantageous.
