English Teacher and second in charge of subject

Salary: Corem1-Excelm3 (MPS/UPS) + TLR 3E (£2,618) and SEN1 allowance (£2,539)

The Role
They are looking for an enthusiastic, energetic and innovative teacher of English, with strong interpersonal skills and a commitment to achieving high standards within a thriving department. The successful candidate will have a strong academic background, be an excellent classroom practitioner who is capable of inspiring and motivating students and have experience of working with children with special educational needs (please note this does not need to be within a special school setting). They are keen to receive applications from mainstream colleagues too.
The successful candidate will continue to support improvement in the department through the department's subject planning and development time to further develop the curriculum and its implementation.
They welcome applications from both primary and secondary qualified teachers. They have a great mixture of both within Their school - something that greatly enhances their curriculum offer! The majority of their students are working at a KS1 and KS2 level with a small number studying GCSEs in English, Maths and Art. A knowledge of the primary English curriculum and phonics is desirable but not essential for an outstanding candidate.

Key Responsibilities
- support the Head of English and Literacy in the strategic leadership of the department and in implementing an engaging and inclusive English curriculum.
- lead the department's work on assessment and examinations to improve student progress and attainment and inform interventions.
- coordinate assessment and examinations within the English department, ensuring compliance with school policies and external requirements.
- lead on data analysis and reporting within the department, providing information to SLT and contributing to school improvement planning.
- coordinate and manage the administration of internal and external assessments.
- provide mentoring and support to English teachers, particularly in using assessment data to inform teaching and learning.
- support the English Lead with the evaluation and implementation of the curriculum to ensure students experience the full breadth of the subject and are able to make progress;
- support the provision of structured schemes of work, ensuring curriculum coverage, continuity and progression in the subject for all pupils;
- support the evaluation of progress and achievement in the subject by all pupils;
- assist the Head of English and Literacy to monitor the quality of teaching through observation of lessons and adherence to the school's monitoring systems; Management of People:
- deputise for the Head of English and Literacy, when required
- support the Head of English in evaluating the quality of teaching, learning, and assessment within the department.
- establish clear expectations and constructive working relationships among staff involved with the subject through team working and mutual support;
- assist with mentoring and coaching of departmental staff to develop expertise and ensure the quality of teaching and learning;
- support the professional development of English staff, particularly in the areas of assessment, data, and differentiation;
- act as a role model, setting high professional standards for colleagues in teaching, marking and assessment.
- support in planning and delivering departmental meetings and CPD sessions.
- monitor the quality of assessments and provide feedback to staff to ensure consistency and accuracy.
Skills and Qualifications
- Has qualified teacher status with a degree qualification
- Experience of working with pupils with SEND
- Evidence of Continuing Professional Development
- A proven record of sustained effective classroom practice, demonstrating effective outcomes
- High expectations and shows a passionate commitment to developing the best in young people, with a relentless focus upon ensuring excellent attainment and outcomes
- Has a record of successful working with parents as partners in learning
- Experience of monitoring and evaluating teacher effectiveness in relation to standards and outcomes
- The ability to form and maintain appropriate relationships and personal boundaries with students
