Due to our continued progressive growth, diversification and further expansion into a purpose-built facility in early 2023 , SM UK currently has a fantastic and exciting opportunity for a Sales Engineer to take a vital role in the Company’s further expansion. You will be an integral part of our existing Van Conversion Division and your experience will contribute in taking us to the next level.
SM UK are recognised as the preferred supplier for the UK’s biggest manufacturer of vehicle safety systems and Welfare and Van Conversion Market. Dealing with leading vehicle manufacturers and supplies such as Ford, Sortimo, System Edstrom and Rhino, providing bespoke solutions for clients up and down the country. We are looking to recruit a highly organised, proactive and enthusiastic Sales Engineer who can confidently communicate at all levels. You will be a motivated and ambitious Team member with a desire to expand your knowledge and experience to further develop your future career with us. Ideally you will have a minimum of 3 years’ experience within the van conversion/build environment, automotive industry or similar background, with 3D SolidWorks software experience being an advantage or relevant transferable skills and/or qualifications to underpin your knowledge.
The ideal candidate will be willing to learn and ideally have a passion/interest in engineering and be able to work to a high standard on their own initiative and as part of a Team. Drawing on your experience and passion you will be responsible for designing anything from a simple racking system to a more specialist bespoke designs, striving to provide the best possible customer solution at every opportunity, building long standing working relationships with new and existing Clients. You will be responsible for ensuring that every van conversion design provides the optimum solution for new and existing clients and meets all the required legislative requirements whilst working with vehicle manufacturers, VCA, VOSA and other professional authorities.
Your duties will include but not limited to the following:
- To work alongside Sales, Compliance and Installation Engineers.
- Ability to prepare and interpret all required documentation, including technical information and calculations.
- Ability to read technical drawings, provide technical support and resolve technical issues.
- Developing all design, in line with agreed concept and best manufacturing methods including van racking solutions, seating, on board power, lighting and accessories.
- Provide optimum, cost effective and innovative solutions.
- Generate Bill of Materials (BOM) and Cutting Lists.
- Work with CAD and have the ability to work with third party CAD systems.
- Meeting both internal and external deadlines.
- Liaising with new and existing suppliers and manufacturing representatives.
- Innovation, Research & Development into new suppliers, materials, products, designs and concepts to continually enhance our competitive edge and client offering.
- Following internal procedures and processes.
- Liaising effectively with internal departments such as Sales, Workshop, and Stores to efficiently manage each project and provide an efficient and practical working environment.
