We are looking for a CNC Setter/Operator to join our growing team, the work is focused on high specification maritime defence contracts. The role will start initially as a day shift for around 8 weeks of training dependant on current skills and experience then will move to a night shift.

The role responsibilities

  • Responsible for setting and operating CNC mill and turning machines
  • Achieving tight tolerances on a range of machinery.
  • Achieving manufacturing hours and deadlines to meet the customers’ needs.
  • Completion of inspection using Renishaw probe and various hand measuring devices.
  • Ensuring you will become part of the right first-time culture.
  • Adherence to all Health Safety and Environmental policies and procedures.
  • Ensuring high levels of quality and workmanship are maintained.
  • Supporting other departments in the manufacture of products.
  • Carrying out basic machine maintenance including metal working fluid checks and pre-use safety checks.
  • Completion of all paperwork to maintain complete traceability.
  • Working in line with LBBC Quality manuals and MOD standards.
  • Editing CNC programmes using Heidenhain or Haas control for machining centres.

Essential experience

  • Apprentice trained
  • Be competent using Heidenhein iTNC 640 & Hass G-code control system
  • Various materials including carbon steel and stainless steel
  • Manufacturing to engineering drawings
  • CNC Milling and turning machines.

Core skills

  • Ability to provide effective communication during hand over to day shift production supervisor.
  • Ability to problem solve.
  • Ability to manage and plan the project to meet milestones and achieve targets.
  • Ability to work unsupervised and to own initiative.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings with good understanding of geometric dimensioning & tolerancing.
  • Ability to operate multiple machines.

Desirables skills and experience

  • Experience working with Steel, Stainless Steel and Exotic metals.
  • CNC programming (Heidenhain or G-code)
  • Experience working with Solidworks & Solidcam
