Mechanical - Strip Out Engineer
Location - Faversham
Rate £20.00p/h PAYE


Gap Technical are seeking a skilled and experienced Mechanical Strip-Out Engineer. The role involves dismantling and removing material handling equipment (such as conveyor systems, sortation equipment, lifts, cranes, and automation systems) The ideal candidate will possess strong mechanical knowledge, excellent problem-solving skills, and a commitment to safety and quality.

Key Responsibilities:
Strip-Out Operations:

  • Dismantle and remove material handling equipment, ensuring all components are safely handled and labelled for transportation or disposal
  • Conduct decommissioning of mechanical systems, including conveyors, hoists, racking, and robotics.
  • Utilize technical drawings and manuals to disassemble equipment efficiently and correctly.

Health & Safety Compliance:

  • ???????Follow all site-specific and company health and safety regulations, including risk assessments, safe systems of work, and toolbox talks.
  • Ensure all tools, machinery, and lifting equipment are used safely and maintained to regulatory standards.

Collaboration and Communication:

  • Work closely with site supervisors, electricians, and other trades to coordinate strip-out activities.
  • Report any issues, delays, or additional work requirements to the Project Manager.

Documentation:

  • Maintain accurate records of dismantled equipment, including photographs, condition reports, and inventory tracking
  • Complete handover documentation for equipment removal and transportation.

Tool & Equipment Maintenance:

  • Ensure all tools and machinery are clean, maintained, and fit for purpose.

Key Skills & Experience:

  • Proven experience in the dismantling or installation of material handling or similar mechanical equipment.
  • Strong mechanical engineering knowledge, including the ability to interpret technical drawings and schematics.
  • Proficiency in using tools such as grinders, wrenches, hydraulic jacks, and cutting torches.
  • Understanding of health and safety regulations, including safe working practices in mechanical decommissioning.
  • Experience in working with conveyors, cranes, sorters, or other automation equipment is highly desirable.

Qualifications:

  • NVQ Level 2 (minimum) / NVQ3 in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent (preferred).
  • IPAF, PASMA, or Forklift License (desirable).
