This position is an exciting opportunity for someone with experience of managing a bar, to take over the running of the events bar. Working within a very small team, you will need to be flexible and adaptable, willing to work hard and come up with ideas to help grow the business. You will need to have energy and drive, and excellent customer service skills.

Reporting to the General Manager, the areas of responsibility for the Bar and Duty Manager include the following:

  • Running the bar for events
  • Setting up and opening and closing the bar
  • Maintaining the bar - weekly line cleaning, cleaning and restocking the bar
  • Cash management, including setting up floats and cashing up
  • Running activity and stock reports from the till system (EPOS)
  • Tracking margins and sourcing stock to maximise profit margins
  • Working within a budget and reporting against that budget
  • Doing the weekly stock-take and ordering stock as required
  • Recruiting, training and overseeing casual members of bar staff
  • Developing the bar and café offer
  • Generating ideas to increase bar revenue
  • Opening and closing the building as required - with sole responsibility for the venue at times
  • Doing the room set-ups for bookings and hires
  • Covering weekday evening and daytime shifts as required
  • Building management and operational duties, such as meter reads, fire alarm tests, maintenance reviews
  • Housekeeping duties to ensure the building is clean and well-presented for all users of the building
  • Admin support if necessary

The position will be 37 hours per week over 5 days and working hours will vary, but will include weekend and evening working, as the Bar & Duty Manager will be expected to work evenings and weekends regularly and cover the majority of Events.
