Position: Core Subject Programme Leader Location: Feltham, West London Salary: £43,000 - £50,000 Type: Permanent The Role The Core Subject Programme Leader will support the Education Senior Leadership Team in leading and managing the Core Subject team, to deliver good quality teaching provision, and achieve good learner outcomes.  The Core Subject Programme Leader will help to deliver key objectives, using data to drive decision making and monitor and report upon progress. To develop young people-centred teaching, learning and assessment strategies, which contribute to increased retention, achievement and progression of learners.

Main Duties and Responsibilities o    To teach a range of Maths and/or English qualifications as directed, to a Good or Outstanding Ofsted rated level. o    To develop the Core curriculum in line with national requirements, local community needs, and the needs of employment. o    To prepare and monitor appropriate syllabuses, schemes of work, lesson plans, assignments, assessment plans and learning outcomes in line with HMYOI Feltham and awarding body requirements o    Ensure learners are placed onto the correct courses, including the use of initial diagnostic assessment and agreements for additional learning support o    Monitor the support and entitlement programme for learners, including induction, tutorial support, enrichment and additional learning support, in order to meet individual learner needs o    Ensure that learners, and as appropriate parents and commissioners  are fully aware of their progress through clear, active and purposeful Individual Learning Plans (ILP),academic tutoring and feedback to learners based on target setting principles to ensure that learner outcomes are achieved o    Ensure the recording and maintenance of appropriate records including learner and education information, in line with local requirements. o    Line manage teaching posts as allocated, including: induction, mentoring and coaching as appropriate for new and existing staff; managing underperformance; completion of appraisals and performance targets; identifying and addressing training/development needs and ensuring effective communication and team morale to achieve high standards of performance o    Provide regular progress reports, highlighting any areas of concern on all relevant aspects of the learner activity to SLT e.g. retention, achievement and success rates against targets, learner progress and learner satisfaction surveys o    Identify further opportunities to enhance the curriculum (including virtual learning environment resources) and accredit the activities of young people across the institution. o    To support the Engagement and Resettlement in the development of work placement, and work based learning opportunities for the young people. o    You will be expected to regularly attend meetings as directed by your line manager.

Skills & Experience o    Qualified to deliver to Entry Level to Level 3 Maths and/or English qualifications o    Possession of a relevant teaching or training qualification (e.g. QTS, QTLS, DTTLS, PGCE) o    In possession of or currently working towards an NPQ or equivalent management qualification

o    Experience of teaching on and assessing accredited English and/or Maths programmes from Entry Level to Level 3 o    Evidence of ability to assess effectively and to prepare relevant materials o    Experience of working as a member of a team and evidence of the ability to work effectively with colleagues o    Successful track record of developing, leading and managing a team effectively o    Demonstrable experience of delivering learning to a ‘Good’ or ‘outstanding’ Ofsted level o    Experience of managing a team and performance management procedures o    Excellent verbal and written skills and ability to communicate concisely and effectively o    Demonstrable experience of providing excellent customer service skills o    Understanding of data protection and information security o    An ongoing interest in and knowledge of recent developments in the Core Curriculum o    Excellent interpersonal and communication skills o    Good at building relationships with both internal and external stakeholders o    Ability to use initiative when required and take a problem solving approach to work tasks o    Ability to work well as part of a team and independently when required o    Be able to display an awareness, understanding and commitment to the protection and safeguarding of young people and vulnerable adults o    This post requires a Disclosure and Barring Service Check at an Enhanced level
