I am seeking a skilled Manufacturing Engineer to standardise and improve the manufacturing processes through technical expertise, continuous improvement initiatives, and effective new product introduction strategies. The Manufacturing Engineer will drive efficiency, quality, and cost reduction while ensuring all manufacturing operations adhere to company and industry standards.

Key Responsibilities for the Manufacturing Engineer

  • Manage and control systems and documentation associated with product manufacture and build procedures in alignment with company standards
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives aimed at producing products with minimal steps, minimal stock, and short cycle times while maintaining quality standards
  • Support the engineering team with Design for Manufacture (DFM) expertise
  • Collaborate with project teams to develop and implement plans for timely product introduction at optimal cost and quality
  • Ensure all production equipment, machinery, test equipment, and jigs are properly maintained and meet operational and H&S standards
  • Provide technical support for current production issues and manufacturing needs as they arise
  • Research and implement manufacturing best practices, including recommending new plant and equipment for H&S or cost reduction benefits
  • Train personnel on product understanding and manufacturing/testing techniques
  • Ensure all products comply with QA requirements and meet statutory standards
  • Assist with calibration and maintenance of test rigs and instruments
  • Identify opportunities for waste reduction and take corrective actions when targets are not being met
  • Design with fit, form, function, safety, and cost optimization in mind

Lean Continuous Improvement

  • Support company-wide continuous improvement activities and data capture
  • Encourage and participate in idea generation
  • Implement, manage, audit, and improve 5S workplace organization
  • Maintain visual management boards with team information, safety metrics, skills matrices, and KPIs
  • Ensure continuous improvement initiatives are completed to target
  • Apply lean methodologies and problem-solving techniques including fishbone diagrams
  • Make appropriate no-go decisions and escalate when necessary
  • Process concessions where appropriate and implement preventive measures
  • Ensure all non-conformances are properly quarantined and investigated
  • Work closely with the Quality team to identify root causes and implement corrective actions
  • Maintain adherence to quality procedures
  • Minimize rework requirements
  • Train team members on quality standards and requirements

Safety & Environment

  • Adhere to company safety policies and ensure safe working practices
  • Wear appropriate PPE and enforce safety standards
  • Follow environmental policies including proper waste recycling and disposal

Qualifications & Skills

  • Engineering degree or equivalent technical qualification
  • Experience in manufacturing/production engineering
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement methodologies
  • Familiarity with quality management systems and standards
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
  • Experience with manufacturing documentation and processes
