Tough setting. Real relationships. Tangible progress. If you’re looking for a role where your teaching genuinely changes lives—and you’re not afraid of a challenge—this could be it.We’re looking for a qualified English Teacher (PGCE/QTS/QTLS) to work with young men at HMYOI Feltham. Some learners are working at Level 3, and they’re keen to push higher—so we’re after someone confident delivering English from Entry Level to Level 3, with the flexibility to support a range of ability levels, including high-attaining learners. You’ll be part of a passionate education team delivering lessons that build literacy, self-belief and future potential. Alongside teaching, you’ll have generous non-contact time, planning periods, and a flexible timetable—with PPA and admin time built into your week. What the job looks like:
  • Up to 23 teaching hours/week: 3.5 hrs in the morning, 2 in the afternoon (Mon–Thurs), 3 hrs on Fridays (and you finish at 1pm on Fridays!)
  • Often a few free sessions each week—used for 1:1 outreach with learners who can’t attend group lessons
  • 5 groups in total, with a fixed calendar of 35 days’ holiday, plus 5 additional floating days to use more flexibly
What makes the difference: This role suits someone who connects with disengaged young people—who’s thick-skinned, calm, and can laugh off the odd out-of-context comment from teenage boys. You’ll be supported by an experienced, visible team who take behaviour seriously.Yes, it’s a secure setting—but it’s also a safe one. Staff carry alarms, there’s a dedicated Ops Manager and officers patrolling, and a fast-response system if anything ever escalates. Classrooms are well-managed, with strategies for learners who need a moment out—there’s even a spare room for that reset moment when needed. What you’ll need:
  • A teaching qualification (PGCE, QTS, QTLS or equivalent)
  • Subject specialism in English
  • Confidence working with young people, including those with ADHD or SEN
  • Resilience, humour, and a belief in second chances
And the benefits?
  • 40 days holiday (35 scheduled + 5 flexible)
  • PPA and admin time built into your week
  • Finish early Fridays (1pm)
  • Healthcare cash plan (e.g. claim ÂŁ80/year for dental/optical)
  • Matched pension (4–6%)
  • Life assurance (3x salary)
  • Organisational sick pay
