Part-Time Project Accountant required for a small charity. You will play a vital role in the organisation's success by ensuring sound financial management, better informed decision making and supporting delivery of the overall strategy of new and existing projects. This role will suit someone who can work collaboratively and provide appropriate challenge and insight, who can demonstrate they are results and delivery orientated and manage projects to successful completion.Responsibilities

  • Monitoring the financial progress of each division and the integration of projects as detailed in the seven-year plan: Oversee ongoing financial performance within each division and assess how the integration of projects impacts the financial health of these divisions, ensuring alignment with the long-term strategic goals.
  • Investigating variances: Identify and analyze any discrepancies between actual costs and budgeted costs, working with project managers to address causes and implications of these variances.
  • Developing and maintaining project budgets: Work closely with the project team to develop comprehensive budgets at the start of each project. Continually update and revise these budgets throughout the project lifecycle to reflect changes, ensuring accuracy in forecasting future costs and resource needs.
  • Reviewing 3rd party costs: Evaluate external supplier and contractor costs to ensure that all expenses are justified and align with project goals and budgets.
  • Reconciling projects on time: Ensure that all financial aspects of projects are reconciled upon completion, including reviewing financial reports, addressing outstanding financial matters, and closing out project accounts.
  • Forecasting: Provide regular financial forecasts based on actual expenditures and anticipated costs, enabling better financial decision-making and project adjustments where necessary.

Keys skills and qualifications

  • Qualified Accountant ideally but Part qual/QBE would be considered
  • Experience within charity or housing sector advantageous
  • Proven experience in Project Accounting
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent communication skills to provide financial advice and information effectively
  • Strong negotiating and influencing skills to provide a directed and compelling argument when decisions are not clear-cut
  • Ability to maintain accurate and thorough audit trails
  • Knowledge and experience of IT systems, in particular use of Excel and the preparation of presentations using PowerPoint
