My client is looking for an experienced mechanical engineer to join their business, ideally with a degree (mechanical / aerospace / motorsport), this is an office based 40 a week role.

Roles and responsibilities

Reporting to the design and engineering manager you will be expected to:

  • Support our apprenticeship development
  • Lead and take ownership of work packages from concept through to manufacture To include - design specification, customer relationships, project management, product design, 2d drawings for manufacture.
  • Complete FMEA activities where required.
  • Contribute to the production of new innovations.
  • Support the manufacturing team where required.
  • Contribute to shop floor activities when required.
  • Lead - Quality / Healthy & Safety / environmental initiatives to ensure compliance with all the relevant standards.
  • Managing and monitoring Engineering change notifications and corrective actions reporting.
  • Create test and development plans

Required knowledge and skills

  • Ideally 5 years of industry work experience with an extensive understanding of engineering principles and manufacturing processes.
  • Bachelor's degree in a mechanical discipline Mechanical / Motorsport / aerospace
  • Full UK license with own vehicle
  • Experienced with an industry standard CAD package (SolidWorks ideally, but training is offered)
  • Automotive / Commercial vehicles / Heavy industry equipment experience
  • Experience leading work packages on their own
  • Proven experience in product development and product release
  • Ability to design parts from first principles such as hand calculations, bearing selection, fixings methods, material selection, limits and fits etc.
  • Ability to absorb and take on unfamiliar work packages
  • Understanding of industry standard and how these are applied to designs
  • The ability to create functional 2D drawings from first principles with correct application of GD&T (BS 88 88).
  • The ability to use Finite Element methods to evaluate mechanical designs
  • Composites experience
  • Basic understanding of CFD

  • Demonstrate a high level of motivation, innovation and initiate with an ability to train others.
