As we continue our exciting growth here at BES Utilities, we have a new position available for a forward-thinking and self-driven Accountant to join our team based at our offices in Fleetwood, Lancashire.

This is a key role within the finance team, with direct responsibility for accounting and reporting within BES Utilities and also supporting the wider group of diverse businesses. This role covers all aspects of financial and commercial management and hence provides significant scope for skills and role development.

Our Company

Launched in 2002, BES Utilities is a UK independent commercial utility supplier, comprising Business Energy Solutions Ltd and BES Commercial Electricity Ltd.

Our Head Office is based in Fleetwood, Lancashire, and at the end of 2019 we were able to expand and open new offices in Manchester. In June 2019, we were delighted to launch our own metering division, Smart Choice Metering alongside our already established group of businesses.

Roles & Responsibilities (but not limited to):

  • Month end processes, including preparation of management accounts, balance sheet reconciliations and control, detailed variance analysis on customer numbers, consumption volumes, price and cost variation, and Opex
  • Production of monthly financial performance reports for executive review and for monthly Board reporting.
  • Developing and maintaining forecast models and ownership of the annual budgeting cycle and mid-year reforecasting routines
  • Bank and cash management, including short-term and long-range cash forecasting and balance optimisation
  • Ensure internal controls are in place and are applied/adhered to
  • Support the operations of the businesses and be a point of contract for any finance queries.
  • Provide financial support / modelling / analysis to the team on the financial performance of the business
  • Financial analysis of Costing / Pricing / Margin strategy
  • Evaluation of opportunities / new channels / portfolio optimisation
  • Provide cost control and financial support to all departments in the business.

Person Specification / Qualifications:

  • CIMA / ACCA / ACA part qualification
  • Minimum 3 years 'experience in a similar finance role
  • Degree educated / strong academic background
  • Strong experience at business partner level and delivering to senior stakeholders
  • Strong understanding of financial / management accounting practices
  • Budgeting / forecasting / modelling within a complex customer life cycle
  • Advanced Excel / MS office capability
  • Competency with SAGE or similar financial accounting software.
