Job Purpose

Are you passionate about creating a cleaner, more sustainable community? The Council are seeking an experienced and dynamic Head of Waste Services to lead and direct the waste management operations. In this pivotal role, you will contribute to making Stoke-on-Trent an exceptional place to live, work, and visit by ensuring that waste services are effective, efficient, and compliant with all statutory requirements.

Key Accountabilities

  • Collaborate with the Portfolio Holder and Director to ensure waste services meet City Council requirements and are developed to address future opportunities and challenges.
  • Develop and maintain market intelligence to secure advantageous opportunities for the City Council and ensure effective political, financial, and operational arrangements.
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with elected representatives and senior politicians to understand and respond to political expectations and sensitivities.
  • Develop and negotiate joint approaches for local service planning with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Support the Council's budget strategy, delivering on the requirements set by the Section 151 Officer.

Person Specification

  • Robust knowledge of performance management principles and related legislative frameworks.
  • Management qualification to the level of Pg.D. or equivalent.
  • Understanding of the political and social context of local government.
  • Knowledge of health, safety, and well-being management.
