Job Purpose

Reporting to the site Project and Portfolio Manager you will be an integral member of the team engaging with key stakeholders and customers to develop and deliver key engineering projects. The role will incorporate responsibility for the electrical and control engineering aspects of a number of site-based projects of varying value. Involvement will be from project concept to implementation, including design, specification, procurement, construction, commissioning and start-up and handover.

Working closely with both the operational team and wider British Sugar team you will play an important role in assisting and challenging business practice to ensure all possible solutions are considered and reviewed to solve business problems to lead to the best value project solution.

Core Accountabilities
    • Own the project(s) and ensure that the associated time, cost and quality integrity is robust and delivered against primarily through project construction and execution phases.
    • Lead the design, contracting, construction and testing of all associated project work in order to deliver the requirements as stated on the full capital investment submission.
    • Explore that all possible options for the project are rigorously analysed, such that the alternatives are well understood.
    • Select and appoint appropriate contractors for the lifecycle of the project to ensure that the right overall resource/skills are in place and that contractor leaders are engaged and deliver against their obligations.
    • Develop and manage a robust project schedule based on the stage-gate process to facilitate effective financial and commercial project management which creates and levers business value.
    • Manage the adherence to corporate project governance procedures and processes to ensure that the appropriate management controls are in place and that projects are delivered according to plan.
    • Ensure that an appropriate risk management process is applied to ensure that foreseeable significant risks are identified and managed.
    • Implementation of an appropriate quality management system to ensure that all project outputs meet the key stakeholder requirements.
    • Provide health and safety (H&S) leadership for the project team(s) and assume responsibility for all aspects of H&S associated with the project(s).
    • Partake in or lead, P&ID reviews, HAZOP Studies, Control System URS, FDS reviews and set the standard for site acceptances tests for the electrical and control equipment.
Skills, Knowledge & Competencies
    • B.Eng (hons) or equivalent
    • Certificate in project manager or relevant project experience (manage projects >100k
    • Understanding of capital system
    • Experience in generating/reviewing specifications.
    • Experience in contractor management and commissioning.
    • Health & Safety awareness is a prerequisite; NEBOSH General Certificate or working towards it
    • Strong IT skills
    • Good communication skills
    • Ability to organise and prioritise.
    • Driven with a desire to achieve.
    • Works on own initiative and ability to work as part of a team.
