Simple Recruitment are looking for a Transport Manager for our client based in Frome to join their team on a permanent basis.

In the logistics industry, it is imperative that inventory reaches its destination on time and in good condition. This is, of course, easier said than done. To meet this tricky objective, there is an essential figure to achieve it; the Transport Manager.

The JobAs a Transport Manager, you will be taking charge, managing over 25 vehicles and drivers, and overseeing the entire transport operation daily. You will act as the point of contact for all transport-related enquiries both internally and externally and will be expected to continuously search for ways to boost efficiency.

Please note, that this role is mostly office-based but there will be occasional site visits.

Key responsibilities:

  • Manage the recruitment, training, and supervision of drivers and support staff.
  • Conduct regular safety and compliance audits.
  • Prepare and manage the transport department budget, monitoring the financial performance and identifying cost-saving opportunities.
  • Plan and allocate vehicles according to schedules and optimise routes to ensure timely deliveries.
  • Ensure compliance with all transport-related regulations including health and safety, vehicle maintenance, and driver conduct.

As you will be managing multiple drivers, confident leadership and clear communication skills are crucial to succeeding in this role.

Key Requirements:

  • A CPC Tacho card is required.
  • Relevant degree in logistics, transportation management, business administration, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in transport management, logistics, or a similar role.
  • Experience in fleet management is desirable.
  • Familiarity with transport management systems, fleet management software, route planning tools, and GPS tracking systems.
  • Familiarity with green transport initiatives and sustainability practices is desirable.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to troubleshoot transport issues, optimize operations, and implement practical solutions.

SalaryDependant on experience.

Hours8.30am to 5.30pm, Monday to Friday (you must be flexible for occasional weekend work).
