We are delighted to be working with a leading player in the food packaging industry to recruit a Head of Food Science and Technical for their state-of-the-art facility in Gainsborough. This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced leader with a strong background in technical and food science disciplines to take on a pivotal role within a highly respected and innovative company.
In this key position, you will provide technical leadership across both the technical department and the food science laboratory at the Gainsborough site. Reporting directly to the UK Flexibles Technical Director, you will be responsible for the management, development, and leadership of both departments, ensuring alignment with the company's strategy and driving continuous improvement initiatives. Your role will be hands-on, requiring you to engage directly with technical challenges, product development, and process enhancements that contribute to increased productivity, sales growth, and cost-saving measures.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and develop the Technical and Food Science teams, ensuring they are high-performing, multi-skilled, and aligned with business objectives.
- Build strong working relationships with the Gainsborough management team to ensure site objectives are met.
- Collaborate with the Technical Director to progress all projects, actions, and trials efficiently through the site.
- Serve as the first escalation point for site-based technical queries or issues.
- Ensure all products comply with current EU and UK Food Contact & Food Safety legislation.
- Drive and monitor technical projects and trials, ensuring they meet deadlines and deliver results.
- Provide technical support across other departments such as Procurement, Operations, and Quality Assurance (QA).
- Produce and present monthly reports to update the Technical Director and site management on team activities and progress.
- Support the creation of "right first time" packaging solutions that meet customer and site requirements.
- Promote a culture of safety and compliance across the Technical and Food Science departments.
- Engage with Field Technical Services to offer customer trial support or investigate complaints.
- Conduct customer visits as needed to provide technical support.
Candidate Profile:
- A solid experience managing a team or department.
- Strong leadership, communication, and organisational skills.
- Experience in project management and product development processes.
- Experience in packaging, print, or conversion is highly advantageous.
