Our client, a leading company in the marine sector, is currently seeking a Senior Electrical Design Engineer to join their team. This is a permanent position offering a challenging and rewarding career opportunity in marine electrical engineering.



Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop Electrical Engineering solutions that fulfil client requirements, progressing from requirements capture, through concept design to product development, commissioning, and in-service support.
  • Investigate safety and technical problems using structured problem-solving techniques.
  • Develop circuit diagrams for motor control equipment including direct-on-line and variable speed drives.
  • Develop cable connection diagrams for motor control and control console equipment.
  • Provide technical reference and guidance to equipment suppliers, internal departments, and customers.
  • Manage supplier interfaces and provide technical assistance and approval to suppliers.
  • Check the technical work of others and provide technical guidance to colleagues in other departments as well as to suppliers and customers.
  • Create technical design appraisal documents for submission to marine classification societies.
  • Conduct Arc Flash assessments and other calculations to substantiate designs.
  • Perform other reasonable tasks deemed appropriate to meet the needs of the business.


Job Requirements:

  • BEng in an Electrical Engineering discipline or equivalent technical capability based on practical knowledge and experience.
  • Chartered Engineer with a relevant institute (an advantage).
  • Experience in electrical engineering with a focus on highly regulated industries.
  • Competence in developing electrical schematics, single-line diagrams, and cable schedules.
  • Experience in the selection and programming of PLCs, motion control, and serial communication network systems.
  • Ability to create technical equipment specifications, test procedures, design reports, test reports, and service/instruction manuals in accordance with marine and military standards.
  • Proficient in using recognised CAD packages (e.g., AutoCAD, EPLAN) for producing drawings and schematic diagrams.
  • Proficient user of MS Office suite of programmes (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Conversant with BS EN 8888 for the production of drawings.
