The Project

As a highly experienced Estimator, you will play a crucial role as part of the commercial team, estimating the installation of high-quality, security-rated steel doors, primarily serving the housing, education and commercial sectors, based in Gateshead. This role entails thoroughly evaluating project requirements and producing comprehensive cost estimates for clients. Initially, you will contribute to preparing accurate and competitive quotes that align with client budgets and project timelines.

Requirements

For this role it is preferred that you carry the following professional qualifications as a minimum;

  • Degree or Diploma in Construction (preferred but not essential)

It is also essential that you hold the experience below;

  • Extensive experience within the industry with minimum of 3 years working in an Estimating role
  • A demonstrated track record of working on various commercial, residential and education projects for well-established contractors

Duties

  • Commercial reporting
  • Assist with procurement
  • Specification analysis & review
  • Preparation and submission of tenders
  • Adjudicating tenders within agreed limits
  • Preparing bill of quantity / pricing documentation
  • Reviewing enquiry returns / checking compliance
  • Collection of pricing elements to form tender sum
  • Requesting quotations from subcontractors and suppliers
  • Create cost estimate spreadsheets using Microsoft Excel
  • Contributing to the design process and scope gap analysis
  • Preparing and sending out sub-contract and materials enquiries
  • Carry out take offs from drawings to assist with order placement
  • Propose and implement the preconstruction cost budget for projects
  • Measuring and taking off quantities from drawings - electronic and paper
  • Analyse and comprehend tender documentation and project specifications
  • Efficiently utilize a bespoke estimating software to produce cost projections
  • Developing and building relationships that support growth in the business unit
  • Effectively manage tasks, ensuring tender deadlines are consistently achieved
  • Participate in financial negotiations to secure contracts whilst ensuring profitability
  • Development of supply chain & supplier relations to assist in optimising commercial position
  • Incorporating contractual requirements into tender pricing to provide the best-value solutions
  • View and analyse project drawings on online platforms, printing, and annotating key scope elements
  • Managing the preparation of more than one tender at any one time (depending on size and complexity)
  • Working closely with commercial, technical, and sales teams to develop cost-effective project solutions
  • Examine architectural drawings, elevations, schedules and NBS specifications, assessing client requirements
  • Overseeing the estimating and proposals teams and manage bids that are commercially sound and high-quality submissions
  • Preparing estimates to meet project goals, such as setting work hours, sequencing tasks, obtaining materials, and securing the best deals with vendors and subcontractors
