Exciting Opportunity - Accounts Assistant

Location: Gateshead
Salary: 26K - 32K
Employment Type: Permanent, could be Part-time (minimum 3 days per week) or Full-time (37.5 hours per week) with the option to join a 4-day working week while retaining 100% salary after probation.

Office Angels are working with an organisation in Gateshead in search of an experienced Accounts Assistant to join their small team, responsible for ensuring financial stability and supporting vital projects.

The Accounts Assistant will support the finance team by processing payroll, managing financial transactions, and maintaining accurate financial records. The role also involves assisting in the preparation of management accounts and contributing to finance-related projects. We are seeking experienced candidates with a background of supporting across a full finance team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in processing payroll, including SSP/SMP calculations, salary adjustments, and setting up new starters.
  • Support in reconciling balance sheet accounts and profit & loss statements.
  • Manage income requests, invoicing, and debtor reviews.
  • Assist with quarterly VAT returns and financial reporting.
  • Maintain accurate bank reconciliations, cash flow monitoring, and credit card accounts.
  • Support financial reporting for grant projects and other income streams.
  • Work closely with managers to ensure effective financial processes and reporting.
  • Assist in the implementation of a new HR/payroll system and dashboard reporting tools.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Experience in finance or accounting, including reconciliations.
  • Proficiency in Xero accounting software (mandatory).
  • Strong Excel skills and experience with Office 365 (Word, Teams, SharePoint).
  • Familiarity with payroll processes and reporting.
  • Excellent time management and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively.

Desirable Skills & Experience

  • Experience in the charity or voluntary sector.
  • Exposure to finance-related projects and system implementations.
