Prospero Teaching are currently recruiting a Teaching Assistant with a specialism in British Sign Language (BSL). This position is around the Gateshead area within a school setting. We are looking for an experienced Teaching Assistant who is confident in communicating in BSL to young people who are Deaf/Hearing Impaired. As a Teaching Assistant, you will support educators with lessons and work on a 1:1 or small group basis for young people who require communication through BSL.

The ideal candidate will have a minimum Level 2 qualification in BSL and be confident working with Hearing Impaired individuals. This particular role has the availability of full-time hours across the academic year. Depending on performance, there may be the possibility for the right person to go permanent with the client.

Information about the role:

  • Supporting Hearing Impaired students
  • Supporting individuals with challenging behaviours and SEND on a 1:1 or small group basis
  • Assisting the educator with administering the curriculum
  • Building positive relationships with Class Teachers to support young people effectively
  • Supervise students as appropriate

The ideal candidate will:

  • Have a minimum Level 2 in BSL
  • Have a full, clean Driving Licence to travel between Gateshead locations
  • Be able to forge positive relationships with educators and school staff
  • Be experienced working with Hearing Impaired young people
  • Be an experienced Teaching Assistant
  • Be patient, empathetic and confident in their role

What we need from you:

  • A valid Right to Work
  • An enhanced, Childrens DBS on the update service, or the ability to complete one
  • References to cover the last two years of employment
