MTrec Technical are proudly representing our prestigious Heavy Engineering client, based in Gateshead, with their internal growth. We are supporting with their recruitment needs by recruiting a permanent Maintenance Lead to join their organisation. A successful candidate will be responsible for reporting activity from the maintenance department into the Maintenance Manager, leading a team of multiskilled engineers to achieve predetermined KPIs, as well as, offering hands on support towards maintenance PPM Schedules. The job you will do:

  • Provide leadership for the successful day-to-day operation of the maintenance operations to ensure an efficient and effective use of all resources and 24/7 on site support for operations, quality and despatch.
  • Work with purchasing manager to develop and improve supplier relationships.
  • Monitor, manage and achieve maintenance targets
  • Monitor and report on all system KPIs in line with business requirement
  • Provide the Plant Manager with root cause analysis and permanent corrective actions in response to plant downtime and reliability issues relating to maintenance and/or engineering.
  • Report weekly KPI and monthly performance for engineering and maintenance operations with variance analysis and corrective action plans where required
  • Set objectives and provide support for team members to enable the team to meet the KPIs agreed with the Maintenance Manager
  • Monitor engineering and maintenance expenses and improvement programmes designed to reduce costs while maintaining product quality and asset utilisation.
  • Develop and lead continuous Improvement activities
  • Promote & maintain awareness and compliance of H&S and Environmental legislation in accordance with best practice and legal requirement.
  • Ensure that all members of the maintenance team are aware of safety policies to provide a safe workplace for employees.
  • Ensure that the necessary manpower, competence, skill, knowledge and tooling required is to achieve maintenance (availability and reliability) targets.
  • Ensure all recruitment and employment is carried out in accordance with company procedure and in compliance with current employment law.
  • Establish goals and objectives for self and team and implement accordingly to help support / improve job performance (experience, ability, competence).
  • Building and developing a high performing engineering and maintenance team through promoting and upholding company performance standards and best practice
  • Promote team working and effective interdepartmental communications.
  • Work on increasing retention levels and succession planning.
  • Ensuring that the appropriate systems and processes are in place to measure and manage staff performance and to coach and develop a high-performance workforce.
  • Address any staff discipline or grievance issue, maintaining appropriate records in accordance with company procedures.
  • To coach and mentor direct reports ensuring an effective response to any daily tasks to improve the overall engineering and maintenance quality of work and service
  • To produce the maximum uptime using exacting engineering and maintenance standards in the most efficient method possible.
  • To actively manage all functions ensuring maintenance standards are delivered through best practice.
  • Implement and deliver an engineering and maintenance continuous improvement strategy across all areas of the business.
  • The preparation of and implementation and monitoring of a preventative maintenance plan and other continuous improvement activities.

About you:

  • Ideally educated to the HNC in Manufacturing/Mechanical /Engineering and have a relevant professional institute qualification.
  • This is a hands on position that might require working outside of normal business hours.
  • Possess a broad background in mechanical / electrical engineering and manufacturing with a wide range of knowledge on manufacturing and production processes, preferably sheet metal related.
  • Have a minimum of 5 years of experience in people management and team involvement.
  • Possess experience of sub-contract environment.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical engineering & technical drawings.
  • Have a working understanding of procurement
  • Have a minimum of 5 years of experience in Maintenance repair & Preventative maintenance.
  • Have a high level of understanding of Health and Safety and Environmental best practice and legislation.
  • Possess experience in the operating within ISO 9001:2008 Quality Management System.
  • Persistent in their approach to problem solving and organizational skills.
  • Capacity to manage time and information effectively, ability to prioritise tasks in line with business strategy.
  • Possess a working understanding of leadership principles and management best practice.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to adapt language as appropriate to the situation, be open and non-defensive.
  • Capacity to take in other perspectives, to listen, understand and provide constructive feedback after considering all feasible possibilities.
  • Ability to build a high-performance maintenance and engineering team who can operate efficiently, effectively, productively and cost effectively.
