Job Description:

Are you an experienced metallurgist looking to make a significant impact in a leading multi-discipline engineering department? Our client is seeking a skilled Materials Engineer - Metallurgy to join their dynamic Metals and Corrosion team. This role is pivotal in providing specialist technical leadership and consultancy services across the business, with a focus on laboratory metallurgical analysis of various metal types including sheet steel, sheet aluminium, cast, extruded, and forged metals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct laboratory metallurgical analysis and materials characterisation.
  • Investigate quality technical issues and validate new materials and technologies.
  • Develop and publish material standards, requirements, and technical reports.
  • Support materials management and technical coordination for new programmes.
  • Engage in research and innovation projects, contributing materials expertise.
  • Facilitate laboratory failure investigations and provide technical consultancy.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams and external suppliers to ensure material integrity and compliance.

Skills and Experience Required:

  • Degree in Materials or Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • Extensive knowledge of metallic materials, technologies, and manufacturing processes.
  • Proficiency in fatigue testing, analysis, and CAE/FEA tools.
  • Proven experience in a technical role within the automotive or similar high-tech industry.
  • Strong laboratory investigation skills and familiarity with failure analysis techniques.
  • Excellent organisational, communication, and project management abilities.
  • Self-motivated with a strong ability to work independently and lead process improvement projects.

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience with 6-Sigma tools and techniques, particularly in process development and statistical methods.
  • Knowledge of agile methodologies.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills with strong influencing capabilities.
