Work Pattern: Rotating day and night shifts (rotates every two weeks), 39 hours per week
We are seeking a skilled Shift Engineer to join a dynamic team in London-Rainham. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work with a renowned brand known for premium-quality products and ongoing expansion into new markets. This organisation looks after its engineers and offers training and development where needed. It can also offer career progression into a more senior role, e.g., Team Leader/shift manager.
Shift Pattern Details:
- 4-week rotating shift pattern:
- Week 1: Monday & Tuesday (Day), Friday & Saturday (Day)
- Week 2: Wednesday & Thursday (Day)
- Week 3: Monday & Tuesday (Night), Friday & Saturday (Night)
- Week 4: Wednesday & Thursday (Night)
- Shifts are 6am-6pm or 6pm-6am; no consecutive days or nights
- 24/6 coverage with potential additional Sunday shifts (call-out rota with £75 allowance)
Equipment on Site:
- Intake System: Lorries unload into an underground hopper, transferring rice into 16 bulk silos (1,000 tons each).
- Milling Lines:
- Cleaners and Separators: Remove impurities and foreign matter from raw rice.
- Dehuskers: Removes the husk from the rice grains.
- Whitening Machines: Polish the rice to remove the bran layer.
- Grading Machines: Sort the rice based on size and quality.
- Collar Sorters: Use compressed air to sort out defective grains.
- Packing Lines:
- Bagging Machines: Automatically fill, weigh, and seal various bag sizes.
- Robotic Palletizers: Automate the stacking of filled bags onto pallets.
- Conveyors: Transport rice bags through different stages of the packing process.
- Stitching Machines: Securely close large bags, such as 20kg packs.
- Metal Detectors and Checkweighers: Ensure product quality by detecting metal contaminants and verifying bag weights.
- Shrink Wrapping Machines: Wrap pallets of finished products for shipping.
- Maintenance Equipment:
- Chain Conveyors, Elevators: Transport materials within the facility.
- Sprockets and Pulleys: Critical components in the operation of conveyors and other machinery.
- Lubrication Systems: Maintain machinery efficiency and longevity.
Your Role as a shift Engineer:
- Report to the Engineering Team Leader
- Adhere to GMP, Safety, Quality, Operational, and Engineering procedures
- Support production while prioritizing Safety, Quality, and Production Volume
- Ensure compliance with legislative and statutory requirements
- Monitor site performance and KPIs, supporting safety targets
- Manage spare stock holding and procurement through PM systems and CMMS
- Identify and plan maintenance and corrective actions
- Execute continuous improvement tasks
- Provide technical expertise and training for Operators and Technicians
- Control work through the Permit to Work system
- Drive continuous improvements and liaise with other departments
- Offer suggestions for enhancing production equipment and facilities
- Conduct electrical and mechanical installation works
Essential Experience:
- Experienced Shift Engineer with a solid track record
- Flexible to work rotating shifts (days and nights)
- NVQ level 3, City and Guild or apprentice trained in an electrical or mechanical discipline.
- Experience with workshop machines and power tools
- IOSH Managing Safely certification
- Experience in confined spaces and working at heights (training available)
- CI trained in a manufacturing environment
- MEWP and FLT licenses (training available)
- Lone worker experience (preferred)
- Knowledge of food safety standards BRC and HACCP
