Senior Simulation Engineer

Location: Gillingham
Contract Type: Permanent/Full-time

Job Purpose: We are looking for a skilled Senior Simulation Engineer to join our Simulation Department. You will utilise advanced simulation techniques and physical test data to support design, development, validation, and manufacturing processes. Your focus will be on tribology, structural analysis, and the interaction of hydraulic components.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct simulations, focusing on tribology and structural analysis, to assist in the development and validation of system components.
  • Collaborate closely with Design and Development Engineers, providing recommendations based on simulation results.
  • Liaise with cross-functional teams, including Materials, Validation, and customer teams, to enhance simulation accuracy and outcomes.
  • Document methods, assumptions, results, and conclusions for reporting to the Simulation Manager.
  • Present summaries of findings to diverse audiences, both in-person and via conference calls.
  • Support the development of new simulation techniques and methods to improve product performance.
  • Assist in project planning, ensuring timely delivery of work packages.
  • Arrange and attend project meetings, preparing agendas and minutes as needed.

Skills & Attributes:

Mandatory:

  • Expertise in applying simulation methodology to the design of hydraulic components.
  • Proficiency in commercial simulation software such as Ansys, AMESIM, and GT Suite.
  • Strong understanding of physics and mechanical engineering principles.
  • Familiarity with fluid dynamics, metal fatigue, and fluid-structural interaction analysis.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to present complex data to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure, prioritise tasks, and manage workloads.
  • Solid knowledge of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and SharePoint.
  • Willingness to travel for training and problem-solving with customers and suppliers.

Desirable:

  • Experience with Elasto-hydrodynamic analysis (e.g., IST First).
  • Knowledge of drivetrain tribology and advanced simulation methods for high-pressure fuel injection systems.
  • Experience in Python programming, CAD/Solid Modelling (SolidWorks or NX), and geometric tolerancing.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing processes like grinding, heat treatment, and injection moulding.

Experience & Qualifications:

  • At least 5 years of experience using simulation tools in an industrial environment.

Desirable:

  • 5+ years of experience in high-pressure fuel injection systems, with detailed knowledge of hydraulic components.
