Design Manager - 12 Month Contract - Glasgow

NUCLEAR INDUSTRY EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

Our Client has a requirement for an experienced Design Manager, who will be required to work on a Contract basis in Glasgow.

Contract: initial 12 month contract

IR35 status: Inside IR35 umbrella

Rate: Negotiable dependant on experience

Hybrid: 3 days office, 2 days home

You must be sole British national and to have worked/lived in the UK for the last 5 years to apply for this role, SC clearance will be required, the client will take you through the clearance process.

Tasks:

  • Leading working groups, meetings and reviews with Consultant / Contractors
  • Leading delivery of technical packages of work.
  • managing a team of multi discipline engineers.
  • Authoring, development, assessment, maintenance and management of the suite of Clyde Nuclear
  • Infrastructure Design Substantiation documents.
  • Management of design changes/concessions.
  • Presentation of Clyde Design substantiations, to Clyde ‘Due Process' nuclear safety committees
  • Production and development of Examination, Inspection, Maintenance & Testing (EIMT) Schedule, operating procedures and results to satisfy design requirements and safety case through life.
  • Producing Periodic Review of Safety reports.
  • Providing advice and direction to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Production of Independent Technical Review (ITA)/Independent Peer Review (IPR).
  • Use a combination of general and specialist engineering knowledge and understanding to apply existing
  • and emerging technology.
  • Apply appropriate theoretical and practical methods to design, develop, manufacture, construct,
  • commission, operate, maintain, decommission and re-cycle engineering processes, systems, services and products in a nuclear/high risk environment.
  • Producing robust technical justification to allow for relevant civil/structural design modifications to be authorised within a high hazard industry.
  • Review technical reports and other safety case submissions from external contractors.
  • Check and review calculations and technical documents written by other members of staff.
  • Produce and improve technical processes within JPT.

Experience:

  • The Design Manager must have 12-15 years' experience and be able to demonstrate relevant knowledge and skills required in the technical management of large scale and complex design development throughout the design lifecycle.
  • Sound understanding of engineering design and safety practice as relevant to discipline, post and project requirements.
  • Strong understanding and experience of working in BIM environments.
  • Sound project specification, planning, project management and budgeting experience.
  • Sound understanding of Company and departmental procedures relating to Design, Health & Safety (including Principal Designer responsibilities under CDM) and Quality requirements.
  • Working knowledge of relevant engineering office computer applications
  • Experience of the design support to construction, operation, refit/repair of conventional and nuclear submarines and/or facilities.

Desirable:

  • Ideal candidates would already have experience within HMNB Clyde or a similar high-risk environment.
  • Familiarity with safety case development techniques e.g., HAZID/HAZOP studies.
  • Experience of working in the UK nuclear industry (energy or defence), particularly in the design and assessment of safety-related structures, systems and components.
  • Knowledge of UK and US nuclear industry regulation and practice, and application of relevant nuclear specific codes and standards.
