An exciting opportunity has arisen for a skilled Data Scientist with a strong background in Bioinformatics, Molecular Biology, or related fields. The successful candidate will be instrumental in developing and maintaining a confidential, user-friendly phylogenetic database, ensuring the integrity and confidentiality of data in line with organisational policies.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and maintain a well-structured, user-friendly phylogenetic database.
- Regularly update the database through detailed phylogenetic analysis.
- Utilise AI-based approaches for rapid identification and analysis.
- Conduct de novo ’omics analysis as required.
- Provide IT support within the organisation for minor technical issues.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to enhance database accessibility and improve user experience.
- Ensure data accuracy, confidentiality, and integrity in compliance with data policies.
- Directly report to the Chief Scientific Officer.
- Provide monthly reports including written and visual documentation of work progress.
- Collaborate and report findings to the Scientific Advisory Board when required.
- Ph.D. or Masters in Data Science (Life Sciences), Bioinformatics, Molecular Biology, Evolutionary Biology, or a closely related field.
- Proficiency in Python or R, and familiarity with Linux operating systems.
- Experience in managing SQL-style databases and developing web interfaces.
- Strong understanding of IP issues and company confidentiality.
- Experience with AI and machine learning coding practices.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and capable of learning new software quickly.
- Experience with peptide and amino acid sequence analysis.
- Knowledge of cell signalling, hormones, receptors, and potentially insect biology or agriculture.
- Excellent ability to communicate complex data and insights effectively through both reports and presentations.
