Data Scientist - Bioinformatics
  • Job Type: Full-time, Hybrid
  • Location: Hybrid (60/40 on-site/home model)

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a skilled Data Scientist with a strong background in Bioinformatics, Molecular Biology, or related fields. The successful candidate will be instrumental in developing and maintaining a confidential, user-friendly phylogenetic database, ensuring the integrity and confidentiality of data in line with organisational policies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain a well-structured, user-friendly phylogenetic database.
  • Regularly update the database through detailed phylogenetic analysis.
  • Utilise AI-based approaches for rapid identification and analysis.
  • Conduct de novo ’omics analysis as required.
  • Provide IT support within the organisation for minor technical issues.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to enhance database accessibility and improve user experience.
  • Ensure data accuracy, confidentiality, and integrity in compliance with data policies.
Reporting & Communication
  • Directly report to the Chief Scientific Officer.
  • Provide monthly reports including written and visual documentation of work progress.
  • Collaborate and report findings to the Scientific Advisory Board when required.
Required Skills & Qualifications
  • Ph.D. or Masters in Data Science (Life Sciences), Bioinformatics, Molecular Biology, Evolutionary Biology, or a closely related field.
  • Proficiency in Python or R, and familiarity with Linux operating systems.
  • Experience in managing SQL-style databases and developing web interfaces.
  • Strong understanding of IP issues and company confidentiality.
  • Experience with AI and machine learning coding practices.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and capable of learning new software quickly.
Desirable Experience
  • Experience with peptide and amino acid sequence analysis.
  • Knowledge of cell signalling, hormones, receptors, and potentially insect biology or agriculture.
Communication Skills
  • Excellent ability to communicate complex data and insights effectively through both reports and presentations.
