Astute's Power team is partnered with a leading Energy company, who operate several Energy from Waste Power (EfW) Stations across the UK, to recruit for an Outage and Projects Engineer to cover their EfW sites in Scotland, which includes Glasgow and Dunbar. There will be occasions you are asked to support with other sites across the UK so flexibility with being asked to travel will be required.

The vital Outage and Projects Engineer role comes with a salary of 62,000 + car allowance + up to 10% Bonus + overtime + Benefits.

Responsibilities and duties
Reporting to the National Outage and Projects Manager, you will be responsible for:

  • Coordinating, scheduling, and plan maintenance activities during planned and unplanned shutdowns of the plants
  • Create engineering plans for all maintenance outages, ensuring all stock items are available along with the correct resources.
  • Create detailed scopes of work and engineering specifications ready to be sent out for tender.
  • Manage statutory inspections ensuring all documentation is completed and up to date.
  • Support site Engineering Managers in the day-to-day delivery of the outage period to ensure target completion dates and critical path tasking remains on schedule
  • Conduct RCM reviews of mechanical maintenance procedures to deliver increased equipment availability

Professional qualifications
We are looking for someone with the following:

  • A minimum HNC (or equivalent) qualification in relevant engineering discipline
  • Ideally a formal Health and Safety qualification such as IOSH (or equivalent)



Personal skills, knowledge and experience:
The Outage and Projects Engineer role would suit someone who has:

  • Prior experience delivering outages in a heavy process engineering environment such as Power Generation (Energy from Waste, Biomass, Coal, CCGT, CHP, etc), Refineries, COMAH Sites, Steel, Paper Mills, etc
  • Knowledge of PSSR regulations
  • Good knowledge on steam boilers systems is a necessity
  • Prior knowledge of steam turbine maintenance and support
  • Experience in managing contractors on site
  • Experience working with CMMS systems
  • Willingness to work extra hours during times of outages
