The Trunk Road Casualty Reduction Team (TRCRT) within Transport Scotland's Operations Unit is seeking a dedicated and skilled professional to join their team. This role offers a unique chance to contribute to the safety and efficiency of Scotland's trunk roads, ensuring safer journeys for all.

 

This temporary post is initially offered as a 6-month contract on a PAYE basis

**Key Responsibilities:**

- **Programme Management:** Oversee the development, delivery, and budget performance of Accident Investigation and Prevention (AIP) measures, managing a budget of approximately £6 million.
- **Stakeholder Coordination:** Facilitate effective engagement with stakeholders to identify and apply best practices in road safety engineering.
- **Leadership:** Lead the delivery of engineering measures, contributing to the Scottish Government’s road safety targets.
- **Reporting:** Draft reports, respond to public correspondence, and provide briefings for Ministers.
- **Site Visits:** Conduct site visits with Police Scotland and Operating Companies to review fatal accident circumstances.

**Skills and Experience:**

- **Analytical Expertise:** Proven ability to analyse and use evidence to support informed decision-making.
- **Performance Improvement:** Experience in transport settings, adept at project and programme management to drive continuous improvement.
- **Communication:** Strong verbal and written communication skills, capable of building effective relationships and managing conflict constructively.
- **People Management:** Skilled in developing and motivating staff, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.

**Essential Criteria:**

- Chartered Engineer (C. Eng.) within a relevant discipline, registered with the UK Engineering Council.
- Experience in using and interpreting data to support decision-making.
- Proven track record of managing workloads, staff, and delivering programmes on time.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

**Desirable Criteria:**

- Experience in budget monitoring and reporting.
- Background in Road Safety Engineering and research.
- Understanding of Transport Scotland’s strategic objectives and the challenges in meeting casualty reduction targets.

**Location:**
Based in Glasgow with hybrid working arrangements, including office presence twice per week, pro rata.
