Role Description:
- Applies a depth of specialist design knowledge in mechanical aspects of Marine Systems to resolve complex specialist design problems and issues.
- Understands business processes and the business environment and organises and co-ordinates engineering activity, ensuring defined objectives are achieved whilst maintaining quality and cost.
- Will assist with the development of marine systems, providing design input to the subcontractor and assurance that the architecture and detailed design are fit for purpose, ensuring technical viability and safe operation of all marine and auxiliary systems.
Duties:
- 4 years + demonstrable experience in auxiliary
- Ideally someone who experience in a similar role and has experience creating and managing piping systems.
- Doing calculations and investigating pressure loss on piping systems
- Ability to understand technical specifications and write technical reports.
- Responsible for mentoring a junior engineer to pass on the knowledge.
- Does not necessarily need a background in naval or marine engineering – for example civilian designing hot and cold water for a building, same physics apply, nuclear power plant, distillery.
- Good working knowledge of piping systems
- Required to touch base with customers. Would be required to speak to suppliers a lot regarding new valves and pumps.
- Calculation software – fluid Flo, FORAN, AutoCAD
- Creation of Schematics, Technical Specifications, Design Calculations and General Management of Auxiliary Fluid Systems.
- Participate fully in developing, maintaining, and modifying engineering processes and procedures in assigned areas in response to technical developments and operational need.
- Carry out technical analyses and investigations, including evaluation and selection of technical options, and prepare reports with suggested recommendations.
- Prepare specifications, develop designs in line with specifications and all quality and technical standards, and carry out design appraisals in assigned areas to ensure all standards are maintained.
- Carry out investigations into operational problems or developments and develop and prepare solutions, individually or as a member of a project team.
- Support the identification of business opportunities and the preparation of bids in area(s) of expertise to facilitate the development of the highest quality bids.
- Assist the team through the L&D and performance management process, identifying training and development requirements and skill gaps.
- Carry out technical investigations and assess/provide recommendations regarding consequences.
- By understanding the transversal factors that marine systems have on complex warship design, such as underwater radiated noise, shock, survivability, operability, reliability, availability, human factors, and design for support; influence the overall design solution.
Knowledge:
- Experience in Mechanical Systems for marine applications.
- Experience in the design, build, integration, support and operation of Naval ships.
- Knowledge and experience of shipbuilding, Operations processes and modern build strategies.
- Knowledge of processes and tools used in Marine Engineering
- Awareness of Life Cycle Management reviews of bids and programmes.
- Awareness of external market and similar industry advancements and developments
- Understands how marine engineering integrates into other technologies and products.
Skills:
- Commercial Awareness

Qualifications:
- Engineering Degree qualified
- Degree qualified in a Marine Engineering related discipline.
- Chartered Engineer or working towards it, as a minimum should be Incorporated Engineer and Member of an appropriate Institute.
