Role Overview:As an Environmental and Sustainability Advisor, you will play a key role in developing, implementing, and maintaining the company’s environmental and sustainability procedures. You will work closely with Project Managers, external parties, and internal stakeholders to ensure compliance with regulations, industry standards, and client requirements. This is an exciting opportunity for someone passionate about environmental stewardship and sustainability.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop, implement, and maintain environmental and sustainability procedures, identifying opportunities for improvement.
- Ensure compliance with environmental regulations, industry standards, and client requirements.
- Oversee the development and maintenance of the Environmental Management System, including associated procedures and work instructions.
- Ensure conformity of the Integrated Management System with relevant standards such as ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, ISO 44001, and ISO 50001.
- Maintain SSIP accreditation and update environmental and sustainability information on pre-qualification and supplier portals, including RISQS, UVDB, Considerate Contractor, and CHAS.
- Review and maintain the environmental aspects of the Principal Contractors Licence (PCL) and On-track Plant Operators Scheme (POS) for the client.
- Collaborate with Project Managers to ensure environmental compliance across projects.
- Conduct waste management audits, inspections, and create and implement waste management plans.
- Monitor non-conformances, ensuring deadlines are met and providing support to the Manager in resolving issues.
- Set and review environmental objectives to meet product and process requirements.
- Keep up to date with relevant environmental legislation and ensure implementation of any changes.
- Assist in reviewing environmental documentation (e.g., ESMPs) and preparing reports.
- Support environmental incident investigations and audits across both railway and non-railway operations.
- Identify emerging environmental requirements and regulations.
- Conduct energy assessments at offices and sites, identifying energy-saving opportunities and overseeing energy management projects.
- Collate environmental and energy data, preparing reports for internal and client review.
- Represent the company at environmental, safety, and quality meetings with clients and stakeholders.
- Encourage and promote positive environmental behaviour across the organisation.
- Provide support in other areas of the business as required.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Degree in Environmental Science or a related subject.
- IEMA membership at Practitioner level (PIEMA).
- Personal Track Safety (PTS).
- Internal Auditor (ISO 14001).
- Experience in Environmental Management Systems.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
- Health & Safety qualification and IOSH membership (Desirable).
