Project Manager - Senior Engineer in Site Investigation and Geotechnical Engineering

Approach Personnel is excited to be working with an award winning geotechnical and geoenvironmental site investigation company with established offices in Durham, Glasgow, Newbury, and Manchester.

Due to continued growth and our commitment to deliver site investigation projects nationwide we have recently opened a further office in Glasgow to firmly establish our presence in Scotland. In recent years, our client has developed a significant client portfolio throughout Scotland and this expansion supports our plans for sustained growth in the region.

The Role

Based out of our clients Glasgow office, your duties will comprise the full preparation and management of multiple site investigation projects from contract award through to financial closure, including factual report writing and invoicing.

You will be fully accountable for the effective management of all technical, commercial and HSEQ (health, safety, environment and quality) components of each project and staff assigned to you and within your scope of responsibility. The role will also include supporting the preparation of tenders and business development activity as and when requested by the Regional Manager.

Key performance indicators will be set in conjunction with the Regional Manager and Directors on an annual basis. As a guideline you will be expected to ensure that all work is carried out in accordance with company procedures to a high standard, on time and within budget. Key division of time spent on each part of the job will be set on an annual basis and reviewed regularly.

Day to Day

  • Site walkovers and attendance at pre-start meetings;
  • Preparation and delivery of construction phase plans, incorporating RAMS;
  • Preparation and delivery of environmental management plans;
  • Identification, allocation and scheduling of site personnel and equipment resources;
  • Preparation and execution of site establishment and logistics plans;
  • Compilation of equipment and consumable lists and arrangement of purchases / orders;
  • Compilation and delivery of start-up information packs for assigned Site Supervisor, including formal handover;
  • Regular technical and HSEQ auditing of site supervisor to ensure compliance with project specification and standards, including unannounced site safety audits;
  • Commercial awareness of contract variations and changes along with follow-up notification to the client in accordance with the conditions of contract (e.g. Early Warning notices, Compensation Events notices);
  • Training and mentoring of junior staff as required by the Regional Manager;
  • Log checking, verification and reconciliation against laboratory test results;
  • Compilation, delivery and management of testing schedules to/from designers including coordination and communication with testing laboratories;
  • Factual report writing
  • Project tracking against each key milestone date set at the start of the project;
  • Monitor staff competency on site

About You

Essential:

  • At least 5 years of experience in Construction, specifically Site Investigation
  • BSc in relevant subject, eg. Geotechnical Engineering Geology, Geosciences, Geological and Earth Sciences, etc.
  • Working towards or the desire to achieve Chartered Status
  • Knowleddge of and/or Training on Risk Assessment Appreciation

Advantageous but not essential:

  • MSc in relevant subject, eg. Geotechnical Engineering Geology, Geosciences, Geological and Earth Sciences, etc.
  • Chartered Status
  • SMSTS (Site Management Safety Training Scheme)
  • CSCS Card for Management or Academically Qualified Person
  • PTS (Personal Track Safety)
