An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Payroll Manager to lead the Payroll Department at a respected and growing accountancy practice. If you have a passion for payroll, excellent attention to detail, and thrive in a fast-paced environment, this could be the role for you!

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead the payroll team, managing workloads effectively and ensuring all deadlines are met
  • Identify and implement efficiencies within client payroll services, improving processes
  • Oversee quality control and ensure compliance with payroll systems and regulations
  • Keep the payroll team updated with PAYE/HMRC regulations
  • Act as line manager, carrying out appraisals, and training to develop the team
  • Manage the Firm’s own payroll in liaison with HR and the Staff Partner
  • Partner with a portfolio of clients, processing their payroll and ensuring high-quality service
  • Handle payroll data entry, including starters, leavers, DEA, and statutory payments
  • Provide expert knowledge on pensions, National Insurance, Tax, and statutory payments
  • Submit RTI returns and create journal entries for payroll
  • Support with year-end processes such as P11Ds and P60s
  • Additional duties such as bookkeeping and statutory payment calculations as required
Skills and Abilities:
  • Strong knowledge of National Insurance, Tax, and statutory payments
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage your own workload and meet deadlines
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, and the ability to work at all levels
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills, with an eye for detail and continuous improvement
  • Proficiency in Sage 50 Payroll is essential
  • Experience with cloud-based payroll software and advanced Excel skills
  • Knowledge of remote working tools like MS Teams and Zoom is desirable
  • CIPP qualification is advantageous but not essential

  • Experience with remote working tools (MS Teams, Zoom) is desirable
