Senior Laser Manufacturing Engineer - Glasgow - 50K

Lorien's highly successful Glasgow based client is a market leader in the creation and provision of cutting-edge technical solutions, systems and other products to a variety of customers around the globe and a range of industries and sectors including medical research, renewable energy and more.

On the back of a boom in business demand, they are now in the process of significant internal investment including the recent renovation of their Research and Development centre and a wider recruitment drive. Now they're looking to add some new recruits to their team - this time in the shape of a Senior Manufacturing Engineer with a background in fibre lasers and previous dealings in R&D settings.

Here's an outline below to give you an insight of some of the duties involved, and in return for your efforts they're happy to offer not only hybrid remote working, but flexible start and end times (including early Friday finishes!) to work around your routine, and a range of other great people-focused benefits on top of competitive salaries.

You'll be:

  • Contributing to the delivery of new products as well as taking the reins solving production issues within the existing portfolio
  • Aligning/calibrating fibre & solid-state laser systems
  • Develop and refine assembly documentation / tooling to enhance production processes
  • Train and provide remote/onsite support to manufacturing staff in both Glasgow and over in Asia (this will involve travel a couple of times per year to the tune of a fortnight each time)
  • Diagnose and resolve challenges encountered along the way across alignment/electronics issues/power/systems issues
  • Identify and implement resolutions to address production hurdles
  • Contribute to changes aimed at cost reduction and improved system reliability

Qualifications & skills:

  • Proven background of tackling the duties above
  • Degree in Engineering or Science, with demonstrable work with fibre lasers
  • Hands-on experience in testing/troubleshooting production equipment
  • Strong understanding of lasers in general as well as laser physics and performance metrics
  • Ability to travel to their Asian branch a couple of times per year (roughly 2/3 weeks at a time)
  • Gravitas to work with all levels of staff from varying disciplines, teams and cultural backgrounds
  • Familiarity with Computer Aided Design would be beneficial
